Richland Slams Kamiakin - By Sam Biggs

On December thirteenth, your Richland Bombers men's wrestling team faced off against the Kamiakin Braves men's wrestling team in a series of heated and intense match-ups. The bombers defended their home mats with a big win, 37-26. The Braves and bombers have always been big rivals, and Richland really showed up and took care of business.

We started off really hot when O’Dell, for Richland's 113 lbs weight, demonstrated his dominance by pinning the Kamiakin wrestler, Powell, one minute and 30 seconds into the first round. This set the tone by putting Richland up 6-0 for an early lead. Following a tough loss in the second match, Bomber wrestler Jaramiah Lichliter in the 126 lbs weight class had a rough start, going down 2-0 in the first round but had a huge comeback in the second round, completely locking down the Kamiakin wrestler and scoring six points himself. He secured the win in the third round and stretched Richland's lead to 9-3.

Mason Leavitt represented Richland for the 144 lbs weight class. It was a close match in the beginning, with a score of 6-6 at the end of the first round. Kamiakin pulled away a bit in the second and pinned Mason in the third round with 1:09 left. It was a very close match, and Kamiakin did a great job. Our bomber 157 lbs wrestler, Dobson, had a remarkable match, completely controlling his opponent for most of the matchup. He won 10-4 and further solidified the Richland Bombers' lead over the Kamiakin Braves with a score of 24-14.

One matchup that really stood out was when our 165-pound wrestler, Axil Luther, blew his opponent out of the water. The second the start whistle sounded, he was right into it, banging heads with Kamiakin. He was extremely aggressive and got a feel of the matchup with a quick, early slam only 15 seconds into the first round. As he moved the kamiakin wrestler around the mat, he continued to tire him out. Axil had another big slam with only 30 seconds left in the first round. We would talk about the second round, but there's no need to. That final slam led to pinning the Kamiakin wrestler with five seconds remaining in the first. Axel's match brought Richland's lead to 34-14, and with only three matchups left, it solidified Richland's win over Kamiakin.

The final score was 37-26. Richland performed remarkably and is looking forward to continuing to demonstrate its talent throughout the rest of the season.
