Richland Drops Opener to Curtis - By Isaac Morrison

In a highly anticipated matchup for the opening round of the WIAA  state championships, the Richland High basketball team took on the Curtis High team in what was sure to be an intense battle. Both teams had worked hard all season long to earn a spot in this tournament, and they were eager to prove themselves on the big stage.

From the opening tipoff, it was clear that both teams were ready to play. The action was fast and furious as both teams gave it their all and nothing less. The score remained close throughout the first half, with both teams trading baskets back and forth.

As the second half began, it was Curtis who took control of the game. Led by the star player, Zoom Diallo, who put up a silent 21 points on the night, they began to pull away from the Bombers. Despite the best efforts of Richland's leading scorer, Landen Northrop, who put up a valiant effort with 17 points, they were unable to keep up with Curtis down the stretch.

In the end, it was Curtis, who emerged victorious, winning by a final score of 64–55. While Richland fought hard until the final buzzer, it was ultimately Curtis’ night. Their strong performance in the second half proved to be the difference maker, as they were able to pull away and secure the win.

While Richland may be disappointed with the loss, they can hold their heads up high knowing that they gave it their all and look forward to the next matchup in the tournament.

Overall, this game was a thrilling showcase of high school basketball at its finest. It’s clear that both Richland and Curtis have what it takes to compete at the highest level, and we can’t wait to root for Richland in their next game against Union!
