Bomber Girls Represent - By Gracie Moss

On Saturday, March 23rd, the Bomber girl's Track and Field team made the trip to Ephrata High School, ready to dominate the other teams and take home the gold. The last four times the Bombers have been to this meet, we have won it and have always had girls crushing it in all their events, so there were high hopes this year to continue this winning streak.

Last year, Baylee Wroble had an incredible PR in Ephrata at the Javelin event. Later last season, Wroble won second in State as a junior and is excited to return to it as a senior. In an interview with Wroble, I asked, “How are you feeling about returning to Ephrata after being there last year when you had a phenomenal PR?” She responded with, “I am feeling very happy and excited…I’ve been training harder than I was last year, so I am expecting some really good results, I’m nervous about the weather conditions, but other than that, I am hopeful and can’t wait to see how I throw.” Wroble performed very well in Ephrata, winning first place in the Javelin event, throwing 131 '3, and following in her footsteps, her little sister Brooklyn placed fifth.

Another outstanding athlete on our team is a sophomore, Naly Khamlue Pratt, who has record-breaking times. Currently, she is holding the fourth fastest time in Washington State, but this is only the beginning. I asked Pratt ``How are you feeling about currently holding the fourth fastest time in Washington?” Pratt got back to me and said, “I feel good about it! It’s only the beginning of the season and a good place for me to be. I’m not worried about placements right now because times can change, and what really matters is the end of the season. I know I’m only a sophomore this year, but I feel like I have a lot to prove this season, I have a lot of goals for my team, and especially myself, and I want to be able to make it far. Naly took first place in the 100-meter dash at Ephrata, and Alyssa March took second place. Both of these Bomber athletes have been working very hard, and this is evident in their performances.

Speaking of hard workers, senior Hailey Summers is on an uprise after her ACL tear in October of 2022. Before her injury, Summers ran a 57.47 400, which now holds the all-time sophomore 400 record. For her senior season, she has made it her goal to get back to that speed and possibly even beat her record as a sophomore. I asked Summers, “How are you working towards beating your Richland High sophomore 400 record?” “I have been working hard towards beating my record by giving it my all in practice and having my teammates and coaches push me to be faster and have a better mindset. Coach Marsh has played a huge role in helping me achieve this goal by yelling out times during practice to help me run the best I can at meets,” says Summers. Summers placed third at the Ephrata track meet, running a time of 1:02, as well as another Bomber girl, Emry Law, placed fifth in the 400.

The Bombers girls head coach Stuart Allen started coaching at Richland in 2020 but his season was cut short due to the Covid pandemic. Therefore, his first year getting to coach through an entire track season was 2021. I asked Allen, “Are you feeling optimistic about your team this year? And is there anything about the team this year that sticks out to you?” Coach Allen responded with, “Every year I am optimistic and excited about the season. I have seen this group of seniors since they were freshmen, so the seniors stick out to me most because I remember when they were freshmen, and I know them all very well.” In Ephrata, the girls worked very hard in all of their events, which paid off because they took home the gold to Richland. Below are the results from the meet.
