Softball Win Against Suns - By Lillee Tevis

The Lady Bombers Softball brought the energy against Southridge this last Saturday at their Jamboree. The energy was high, and all players and coaches were ecstatic to get another season of Bomber softball started. With Lady Bombers Sophia Sams and Brooklynn Boyce leading the Bombers this season, it’s sure to be a good one. Not only are the teams geared up for the season, but so are the Bomber alumni! One former softball alumni in the crowd this weekend stated, “Bomber Softball is beyond exciting, and being able to watch these girls and see how much they've grown over one season makes me super excited and very proud.”

The Bombers completely shut down the Suns this game with a score of five to zero after just three innings. The top of the first inning started with a fly ball caught by Boyce at shortstop and another ground ball fielded by Brooklynn for a force out at second base. Senior Christen caught a fly ball in left field to end the inning. Following the top of the first inning, the Bombers had a phenomenal at-bat. Number two for the Bombers, Payton hit a single to start off the Bomber at bat and proceeded to steal second and third base. Next number three, Jordan, hit a hard ground ball, bringing Payton home. Boyce hit a single and following her, Sam advanced Brooklyn off of a dropped third strike. Number 12 for the Bombers ended the inning by double-bringing two runners in. The second inning started with a fly ball caught by number 2 Peyton. The Freshman pitcher for the Bombers number 19, Adelyn struck out Southridge Sun. A final fly ball caught in the outfield led the Bombers into their second at-bat. Adelyn started the second Bomber at-bat with a single. Senior Christen then followed up with another single. Lady Bomber Adelyn was out on an attempted steal, number six for the Bombers struck out, and number 15 for the Bombers had a ground ball out at one.

Ending the game for the Bombers pitcher number 12, Emmalee led the Bombers home with two strikeouts, and Peyton finished off the Suns by catching a fly call in center field. Ending the game at bat, the Bombers hit four consecutive singles and a final triple, ending the game with a win. After the amazing win, Senior Maleea Robinson said, “I feel great about the win, and this is definitely a sign of another great season. Bo Bombers!” Maleea’s father and supporter, Dale, also had commentary about the game, saying, “I feel bittersweet that it’s her senior season. I’m excited because the season is getting started and going well, but sad because it’s her senior season.”

Finally, Head Coach Casey was optimistic about the upcoming Bomber Softball season. When asked how he felt about the forthcoming season, he said, “He felt really good. We're healthy for the most part, and we have very experienced girls that played very well last year, taking fifth at state. It’s pretty much the same group of players, so I’m really looking forward to the upcoming season.”

After taking the Suns out, the Bombers geared up to take on the Kennewick Lions that same day to complete their Jamboree.
